Security guard at Texas elementary left his gun unattended in a staff bathroom

Nov. 9, 2023
A staff member at Story Elementary in Allen, Texas, found the gun; the guard who left the gun has been fired by the security company he worked for.

A security guard left a gun inside of a staff restroom earlier this week at an elementary school in Allen, Texas, district officials say.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the guard, from L&P Global Security, left a firearm inside an “adult restroom” at Story Elementary School in the Allen Independent School District.

The security guard had been assigned to the campus since late October, school officials said.

“The security officer has been removed from any present or future duty in Allen ISD,” the district said.

The company was hired so that the Allen district could comply with a recently passed state law that requires armed personnel to be on public school campuses.

A teacher who used the restroom about a minute after the security guard found the gun and notified campus administrators, according to the district. No students accessed the adult restroom during the incident.

In an email, Prashant Kumar, managing partner at L&P Global Security, said the security guard who left the gun inside the school bathroom had been terminated.

“We are committed to maintaining the trust that the Allen ISD and the public place in us to provide a safe environment,” Kumar wrote. “To that end, we are reviewing and reinforcing our safety and security protocols with all personnel. Our ongoing training will be augmented to include even more rigorous measures that emphasize the critical importance of firearm safety and control.”
