Nov. 3, 2022
A judge formally imposed the sentence on Nikolas Cruz after a jury last month rejected the death penalty; Cruz pleaded guilty to fatally shooting 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018.
Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer formally imposed the sentence on Nikolas Cruz after a jury rejected the death penalty in the case, reports The Associated Press.
Cruz, shackled and in a red jail jumpsuit, showed no emotion as the judge spoke.
Cruz, 24, a former Marjory Stoneman Douglas student, pleaded guilty last year to the massacre. He stalked a three-story classroom building at the school for seven minutes on Feb. 14, 2018, firing 140 shots with a semi-automatic rifle.
He will be assigned to a maximum-security facility.
