Aug. 26, 2022
An 18-year-old suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of Temario Stokes Jr., 16, a student at Whiteland Community High School in Whiteland, Ind.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male sophomore who was waiting for a school bus in Greenwood, Ind.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Temario Stokes Jr., who attended Whiteland Community High School in Whiteland, Ind., was shot to death Thursday morning.

Police say a teen in a black hoodie approached the victim and started shooting. Several other students were at the bus stop, but no one else was injured.

Authorities arrested Tyrique Sevin Radford El about three hours after the shooting and was being held on a preliminary charge of murder.

Greenwood Police Chief James Ison says the shooting was the result of a "minor conflict" between the victim and the alleged shooter, WRTV-TV reports. The two lived about a mile away from each other.

The suspect graduated from Whiteland Community High School last year. Temario had just transferred there and attended classes for only four days before the shooting, according to Clark-Pleasant School Superintendent Patrick Spray.
