Starting in August, a law will require every school campus in Kentucky to have a school resource officer.
The move comes in light of recent rise in violence throughout schools this past year, reports WHAS-TV.
The law states school districts must alert the state if they aren’t able to meet the Aug. 1 deadline to get officers on every campus, reports The Owensboro Times.
Local school officials aren’t opposed to adding officers but say that no funding has been provided to pay for the new positions.
State Security Marshal Ben Wilcox said they will have officers ready to come to the schools and help them make a plan.
