Ohio governor says he will sign bill that would allow school employees to be armed
Ohio governor Mike DeWine says he intends to sign into law legislation that would allow school employees in the state to carry firearrms at schools as soon as this fall.
The fast-tracked legislation, approved by lawmakers, states that school employees who carry guns would need up to undergo 24 hours of initial training, then up to eight hours of requalification training annually, reports The Associated Press.
The training would be specific to schools and include scenario-based training
Lawmakers approved the legislation hurriedly to counter the impact of a court ruling that said, under existing law, armed school workers would need hundreds of hours of training.
DeWine also announced that the state will provide $100 million for school district security upgrades and $5 million for upgrades at colleges.
