Feb. 11, 2022
Mark Michael McNeil, 60, a bus driver for the Flagler district, had about 40 students on his vehicle when he was stopped.

A Flagler (Fla.) district bus driver has been charged with driving drunk with about 40 students on board his vehicle.

Mark Michael McNeil, 60, faces at least one charge of child neglect without great bodily harm and a DUI with passengers under 18, reports WKMG-TV Channel 6 News.

According to the Flagler County Sherriff's Office, McNeil had picked up about 40 students from a middle school Wednesday afternoon.

McNeil allegedly ignored multiple attempts by the school transportation’s staff to communicate with him via radio as he dropped off students.

He was later chased down and stopped by a school district employee.

Police say McNeil’s boss found him along his route. He exited the bus and fell to the ground complaining he couldn’t breathe. Firefighters responded and took McNeil to a local hospital, where he was arrested by deputies, who detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

McNeil was found with a blood alcohol level of .32 and .31, which is four times the legal limit in Florida.
