A 15-year-old boy was stabbed and seriously injured on Tuesday at the E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.
The Washington Post reports that a 17-year-old student has been charged as a juvenile with assault with a dangerous weapon. A knife was recovered at the scene.
D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham says that victim had been seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. The stabbing occurred about 10:30 a.m. in a bathroom at the school.
Police confirmed the victim is a student at the school.
Tomeika Bowden, a spokeswoman for the D.C. charter school system, says a dispute between two students led to the stabbing. Newsham said police recovered a knife.
There are about 430 students in the high school portion of E.L. Haynes.
Newsham says that as of lunchtime, police had not determined why the students had been fighting.
“It’s an unfortunate incident, “ the chief says. “Young people have got to find a different way to resolve their differences.”
