March 2, 2018
Authorities say the victims were not students; the shooting suspect is not in custody.

Two people have been fatally shot at a residence hall at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.

CNN reports that the shooting occurred Friday morning on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall.

Police say the deceased are not students. Sources told The Detroit Free Press that the victims are believed to be the shooter's parents. The situation is believed to have started from a domestic dispute.

There were no other injuries.

Authorities are searching for a 19-year-old man identified as James Eric Davis, Jr., who is believed to be a suspect in the shootings.

Central Michigan University police "had contact" with Davis Thursday night, and he was transported to a local hospital and released Friday morning.

Schools in Mount Pleasant are in "secure mode" -- meaning all interior doors are locked, blinds drawn and no one allowed to enter buildings, according to Jennifer Verleger, Mount Pleasant Public Schools superintendent

The university, which has roughly 20,000 students, is about two hours northwest of Detroit.
