Nov. 30, 2017
The victim, on the faculty at Francis Howell High School in St. Charles, Mo., was treated at a hospital and released.

A  teacher at a high school in suburban St. Louis was shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon while jogging on a trail near the school.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the victim, 36, a teacher at Francis Howell High School in St. Charles, Mo., was treated at a hospital and subsequently released.

The teacher, whose identity has not been disclosed, was running on a trail when he passed an unidentified man, police said. Immediately after they crossed paths, the other man fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the teacher.

The teacher was wounded once in the back, St. Charles County Police say. The gunman fled the trail on foot.

After the shooting, a Good Samaritan who came upon the teacher brought him to the high school, and an ambulance took him to a hospital.

The high school had already ended classes early when the shooting happened, so only students participating in after-school activities were still on campus.

On Thursday morning, classes were back in session at Francis Howell High School, but the campus was on lockdown as a police SWAT team resumed a search of the area for the suspect in the shooting, KMOV-TV reports.
