An 18-year-old student at North Queens Community High School in New York City was shot to death at a bus stop outside the school.

The New York Post reports that Mark Greene died Thursday afternoon after being struck in the torso.

Police suspect that the shooting was gang-related and that Greene was the intended target.

Authorities recovered a gun at the scene and took two people into custody. Michael Raly, 18, has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, sources said.

The second suspect has not been charged.

In a statement, Schools Chancellor David Banks grieved the loss of the student and promised more security at the school, Spectrum News NY 1 reports.

“I am heartbroken for the city of New York, who lost a bright young soul today to a senseless act of gun violence,” Banks said. “We will be increasing security and supports at this school.”
