According to statistics from the National Education Association, the state that had the lowest average salary for K-12 instructional staff in public schools in 2018-19 was Mississsippi.

The lowest average salary for public school instructional staff in 2018-19 was in Mississippi.

The NEA's Rankings of the States 2019 and Estimates of School Statistics 2020 says that the range of average salaries in individual states ranged from $47,437 in Mississippi to $86,609 in New York.

The average salary for instructional staff in U.S. public schools in 2018-19 was $64,545.
