Harvard University continues to have the largest endowment of any U.S. higher education institution.
The 2019 NACUBO-TIAA Study of Endowments says that for fiscal 2019, Harvard's endowment was valued at $39.4 billion—more than $8.4 billion larger than the next largest endowment—nearly $31 billion at the University of Texas System.
The only other institution with an endowment of more than $30 billion is Yale University.
Data from 774 U.S. colleges and universities for the NACUBO-TIAA Study found that endowments returned an average of 5.3% for the fiscal 2019 (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019) compared with 8.2 percent growth percent for the 2018 fiscal year.
