Nations that sent the most college students to the United States, 2018-19

China again tops the lists of countries with the most students attending U.S. higher education institutions.

China sends more college students to the United States than any other nation in the world.

The International Institute of Education's 2019 Open Doors report says that 369,548 students from China were enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions in 2018-19. China also topped the list in 2017-18.

Overall, the number of international students enrolled in colleges and universities in the United States stayed nearly the same in 2018-19 compared with the previous year.

The report says 1,095,299 students were enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities in 2018-19—only 507 students (five-hundredths of 1%) more than the 2017-18 figure of  1,094,792 enrolled in 2017-18. students.

Students from China make up about a third of all the international students in the United States. China and India, which sent 202,014 students to U.S. colleges and universities, account for more than one-half of all international college students enrolled in U.S. institutions in 2018-19.
