Best states for teachers, 2019

Rankings from the WalletHub website say that North Dakota is friendliest state for teachers to work in 2019

North Dakota is the best state in 2019 for teachers to work, the WalletHub website says.

WalletHub came up with the rankings by comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 23 key indicators of teacher-friendliness—from teachers’ income growth potential to pupil-teacher ratio to teacher safety.

States were received scores on a 100-point scale. North Dakota received 61.69 points.

The indicators fall into one of two overall categories—opportunity and competition (70 possible points), and academic and work environment (30 possible points).

"Because competitive salaries and job security are integral to a well-balanced personal and professional life, we assigned a heavier weight to the first category," WalletHub says.

North Dakota achieved the highest score by ranking 11th in opportunity and competititon, and third in academic and work environment.

In WalletHub's 2018 rankings, North Dakota ranked fifth. The top-ranked state in 2018 was New York.

Here is the 2019 list of the top 10 teacher-friendly states.
