Public school systems in Massachusetts are the best in the United States, according to a 2019 analysis by the WalletHub website.
The website has gathered data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia to assess the quality of the public school districts in each state.
It evaluated 29 different measurements that focused on academic quality or safety and security.
Among the factors considered: Graduation and dropout rates, math and reading test scores, SAT, ACT and AP test scores, pupil-teacher ratios, threats and violence, attendance, presence of drugs, discipline, bullying, presence of weapons, youth incarceration rate, and traffic safety near schools.
Researchers analyzed the data, established a 100-point scale, and came up with an overall quality score for each state.
Massachusetts had the highest overall score—67.85.
New Mexico ranked last on the list with an overall score of 28.81.
