States with highest percentage postsecondary enrollment increase Spring 2018 to Spring 2019

Nationwide, spring enrollment at colleges and universities declined 1.7% from 2018 to 2019, but some states experienced growth at their higher-education institutions.

Total postsecondary enrollment in the United States decreased by about 1.7 percent in spring 2019, compared with the previous spring, according to statistics from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center

The center reported overall spring 2019 enrollment at 17,542,109. The spring 2018 figure was 17,839,330.

Year-to-year spring enrollment declined in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Only 11 states saw increases in year-to-year spring enrollment. The greatest percentage growth was in New Hampshire, which had an increase of 9.85 percent.
