Jan. 8, 2019
Federal statistics show that about three-fourths of the students who completed the GED exam received passing grades.

The most recent statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) show that in 2013, a total of 713,960 students completed the General Educational Development (GED) test, and 540,535—75.7 percent—passed the entire battery of five content area tests to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma.

An NCES report, Trends in High School Dropout and Completion Rates in the United States: 2018, shows that the state with the highest pass rate for the test was Iowa, where 98.4 percent of those who completed the test earned a passing mark.

The report says that 816,213 people 16 or older took the GED in 2013. About 87 percent of those completed all five content area tests.

Here are the 10 states that had the highest pass rates on the GED.
