Property taxes are the lifeblood for most local school districts, so the size of a district's tax base is critical to its financial health.

The larger the amount of taxable property in a district, the more easily a school system can raise needed revenue without placing too great a burden on individual property owners.

In Michigan in 2018, 10 districts have tax bases that surpass $4 billion, according to mlive.com

Topping the list is the Ann Arbor district, which has taxable property value of more than $9 billion.
