States with highest percentage undergraduate enrollment drop Spring 2017 to Spring 2018

Total postsecondary enrollment decreased by about 1.3 percent in spring 2018, compared with the previous spring.

Statistics from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center show that overall postsecondary enrollment was 17.8 million in spring 2018; undergraduate enrollment was about 15.3 million.

Year-to-year spring enrollment declined in 34 states and increased in 16 states and the District of Columbia. The greatest percentage decline was in West Virginia, which had a drop of 6.01 percent, and the greatest percentage growth was in Utah, which had an increase of 6.82 percent.
