Twenty states are projected to see their public school enrollment numbers decline from now to 2025, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
Even though NCES's "Projection of Education Statistics to 2025" estimates the public elementary and secondary school enrollment will increase by 2.7 percent from 2013 to 2025, the increase is attributable to the South and West sections of the nation. In the Northeast and Midwest, the student population will fall.
Here are the states projected to have the greatest percentage enrollment declines.
