The National Center for Education Statistics estimates that in 2025, public school enrollment in the United States will be 51,419,700—a 2.7 increase from 2013.

The growth varies widely from region to region and state to state, according to the NCES "Projection of Education Statistics to 2025." It projects that enrollment from 2013 to 2025 will drop in the Northeast by 4.8 percent and in the Midwest by 2.7 percent. In the South, enrollment from 2013 to 2025 is project to increase by 7.8 percent, and in the West, student numbers are projected to rise by 4.4 percent.

Of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, 31 are projected to see enrollment increases from 2014 to 2025, and 20 are projected to see declines.
