Florida had 10 of the 50 largest school districts in the United States in 2013-14. The amount spent on the average K-12 student in public schools in the state was $8,755 a year—significantly lower than the national per-pupil expenditure of $11,009 a year, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
