Project will nearly double the size of Neidig Elementary in Quakertown

The Quakertown (Pa.) district has begun a $27 million expansion of Neidig Elementary School.

The Morning Call reports that the project will take 15 months and nearly double the size of the 1950s-era building, to 85,000 square feet. While construction is under way, students will be relocated to the vacant Tohickon Valley Elementary School, which was closed last year.

The expansion at Neidig will increase capacity to 600 students, 200 more than it has now. Other improvements include installation of air conditioning in all classroooms.

The school will be expanded with a two-story classroom wing, as well as a separate cafeteria and gym, and music and art classrooms.

Construction will start when the school year ends.

“It’s going to look different but it’s going to be a great-looking school,” said Steaven Klein, school board president. “It’s going to be nicer. It’s going to be bigger."
