The University of California, Berkeley, Underhill Parking Facility and Playing Field

The University of California, Berkeley, recently completed the Underhill Parking Facility and Playing Field. Situated two blocks south of the main campus, the 1,000-space, four-level parking facility has two floors below ground and a spacious, 77,400-square-foot, multi-sport artificial turf field and running track on its rooftop.

Construction began in August 2005 following the demolition of the existing 223-space parking lot. This was followed by the erection of beams and columns, along with extensive concrete pours to form the walls and floors. The project was completed in January 2008.

The project's architect is Stantec (San Francisco). Walker Parking Consultants (San Francisco) served as prime designer and project engineer, and Overaa Construction (Richmond, Calif.) was the contractor.
