The Bullard (Texas) district will convert its former middle school campus to an early childhood center.
The district says the old middle school campus will house Early Childhood Special Education services, pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade. The district had previously planned to renovate the former middle school space to serve third, fourth, and fifth grades.
The Bullard Elementary/Primary Campus will house second, third, fourth, and fifth grades.
“After reviewing our student numbers and the building’s capacity, we believe this is the most efficient use of space and taxpayer resources,” Interim Superintendent Jan Hill said. “This plan allows us to better support our students while also planning for future growth.”
District planners determined that even with constructing additional classrooms at the old middle school to accommodate third, fourth, and fifth grades, the building would be at capacity within a few years. By grouping second through fifth grades at the larger Elementary/Primary campus, Bullard can better accommodate future growth.
Bullard opened its new middle school in January for grades seven and eight. Sixth-graders will join them in August.
After collaborating with school administrators and staff, architects will begin the design phase. The project is estimated to be complete by August 2027.
