New Jersey college begins upgrade of physical education center

The $35 million project will modernize the physical education facility at Union College of Union County in Cranford.

The Union County (New Jersey) Improvement Authority is renovating the physical education center at the Union College of Union County campus in Cranford to give students and faculty more space for hosting games, sports-related classes and large events.

Tap into Westfield reports that the Improvement Authority and the college held a groundbreaking for the $35 million project. Union College of Union County was formerly called Union County College.

The project will modernize the 42,000 square-foot Physical Education Center so it will be better-equipped to support programs through the college’s National Junior College Athletic Association and Garden State Athletic Conference programs.

The improvements will include a new wrestling room, weight training center, NJCAA-regulation basketball court, physical training room, multipurpose room and academic classrooms.
