The Caledonia (Michigan) district has completed a $6.5 million renovation of its 75-year-old football stadium.
Mlive.com reports that Ralph E. Myers Stadium has been upgraded with heated locker rooms, updated bleachers and concessions and a new track. The district also installed synthetic turf on the football field.
A new building north of the track was added, with two additional team rooms and bathrooms, two rooms for trainers and officials and two more storage areas.
The stadium holds significance to the community as the home of the 1950 Caledonia football team, which was the only team in the school’s history to be both undefeated and unscored upon.
The stadium has been a part of the district in some form since 1950, when a football field that would later become the stadium was moved from Caledonia’s Lakeside Park. In 1954, the field was rededicated as the Ralph E. Myers Memorial Athletic Field.
Funds for the stadium upgrade come from a $61 million bond proposal voters approved in 2023.
Before the latest renovation, the most recent stadium upgrade was a $1.9 million project in 1998.
