The Bibb County (Georgia) District has completed a makeover of Springdale Elementary School in Macon.
WGXA News reports that it took 14 months to complete the new building and demolish its predecessor -- all without the need to move students to a temporary building.
The original school was built 53 years ago; funding for the upgrades came from sales tax funds.
The new structure features a state-of-the-art kitchen, media center, and smart boards to aid students with their learning.
Cami Hamlin, Springdale's principal, said the new building exceeded her expectations.
"I think my students and families are just going to be so thrilled to have a new space," she said. "We thought our old space was beautiful, but when you come here and just see the skylights and the large windows and open spaces--it's a lot different than a building that was built in 1971."
The students' first day in the new school is set for Aug. 5.
