The Westwood Heights (Mich.) district is converting the former Gillespie Elementary School into a 27-unit apartment complex.
The school has been closed for more than 35 years, but will soon see new life as an apartment building, reports flintbeat.com
The district is partnering with Eco-Development Group and Youth Development Corporation to transform the 24,000-square-foot building.
District high school students in the Westwood Career and Technical Education program will help renovate the building and will be eligible to receive up to 47 college credits for their work.
The renovation is projected to cost about $5 million.
The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
