Friends University, a private Christian/Quaker university in Wichita, Kan., is upgrading its Riney Fine Arts Center

The building, which houses the university's fine arts majors and also hosts community performances, has not been upgraded since 1963, reports The Wichita Eagle

The building will undergo a $7 million renovation, which includes a $1 million overhaul of the Sebits Auditorium and a $3 million expansion and renovation of the building’s south side.

Plans also call for adding a black box theater space, a recording studio, new dance floor in one of the studios, and a chapel.

Funding for the project will come from the university's "Rise Up" campaign. The university has already raised $4.5 million toward its goal

Friends University, founded in 1898, has about 1,800 students.

The renovation is expected to be completed in 2023.
