A Christian church in Leesburg, Va., says it is buying the campus of the former Middleburg Academy in Middleburg, Va.

Cornerstone Chapel will acquire the 90-acre site that was home to Middleburg Academy until it closed in 2020 amid low enrollment and financial struggles, reports the Loudon Times-Mirror.

The church plans to open a school named  Corner Stone Christian Academy. It plans to open in fall 2023 for K-8 grades and will add one grade level per year until it accommodates all K-12 grades

The campus has 70,000 square feet of classroom space with a cafeteria, music room and baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields. It also has a gymnasium and a 13,000-square-foot administration building. It has space for about 500 students.

The church is planning on renovating the buildings and grounds before opening.
