Renovated library set to reopen at community college in Oklahoma

Learning Resource Center at Rose College in Midwest, City, Okla., received a $9.2 million upgrade.

Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla., is ready to reopen its campus library after a $9.2 million renovation and expansion.

The Daily Oklahoman reports that the project shut down the facility for nearly two years. All 12,000 linear feet of books and every program housed in the library were moved to temporary locations throughout campus in 2015.

The facility, officially named the Learning Resource Center, will reopen May 30. It was built to be a library more than four decades ago, but over the years more and more services were housed in the building.

"The space wasn't serving our needs," says Chris Meyer, dean of the Center. "Now there are separate spaces for everything."

Students and their tutors used to meet in the library's lobby. The new tutoring center on the second floor has spaces for one-on-one tutoring and small-group tutoring, plus a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lab with floating tutors to answer students' questions.

The Center also has four interactive television classrooms to serve distance learners, as well as areas for testing, faculty development, disability services, a cafe and, of course, the library.
