Maryland panel approves $106 million for school replacement in Baltimore
The Maryland Board of Public Works has approved a $106 million expenditure to replace several aging school campuses in Baltimore.
The Baltimore Business Journal reports that the public works board allocated funds to replace three schools—the Academy of College and Career Exploration at Robert Poole Middle School ($38.5 million); Arundel Elementary/Middle School ($36.8 million); and John Eager Howard Elementary School ($28.3 million).
The panel also approved $2.9 million for pre-construction work to replace Patterson High School.
The work is part of the 21st Century Schools initiative, a $1 billion overhaul of facilities in the Baltimore City district.
The Maryland Stadium Authority, under an agreement struck by the state, city and school district, is overseeing a majority of the school renovations — about 28 of the city's most dilapidated facilities — s in 2013.
