In anticipation of the of the $400 million that Gov. Jay Nixon pledged in funding for building repairs, Missouri Southern State University, has made arrangements for temporary classroom space. The funds have not been allocated, but the governor made the promise in a visit to the campus last fall, the Joplin Globe reported.
In follow up to the promise, the Missouri Senate passed two measures authorizing $400 million for repairs to state buildings last week, and MSSU is ready for its share of the promised funds.
The school expects to receive $5.2 million for renovations to Reynolds Hall. To that end the university has procured mobile classrooms that were used by Joplin High School in the wake of the May 2011 tornado. The mobile classes will provide replacement space for classes and science labs if the university gets funding to renovate the first floor of the building, which houses science and math classrooms, the Joplin Globe reported.
