When the Missouri State Bears take the field this fall, they will find new synthetic turf underfoot.
The largest athletics and recreational project in Missouri State University’s history is underway. The project will cost $24 million and include new football, soccer and field hockey fields, as well as improved concessions, restrooms, ticket windows and team facilities. The project is expected to wrap up this August.
DeWitt and Associates of Springfield is the general contractor for the project, and Hastings + Chivetta Architects Inc. is the architect. St. Louis-based Byrne & Jones Sports was selected to install the three synthetic turf fields and a new NCAA-regulation, eight-lane track at the soccer field.
“We are able to take this step because of our students,” Missouri State President Clifton M. Smart III said in a statement. “They had the vision; they took the initiative and they approved a fee that will cover the vast majority of this work. From a university standpoint, I think these facilities can be a game-changer for how the university is viewed, in its appeal to students, and for the success of our students and athletic teams.”
