Developer plans affordable housing for teachers in Hawaii

Hawaii’s first workforce housing project for teachers is moving forward in Mililani.

Hawaii News Now reports that the Pacific Housing Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit developer, has completed its final environmental assessment for a 95-unit rental complex on the lower campus of Mililani High School.

The housing development, named Kumelewai Hale, aims to provide affordable units for teachers at below-market value.

The state is pitching in $2 million for pre-development costs.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, and teachers will be able to move into the units in 2030.
