The Washoe County (Nevada) School District has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a long-planned $58 million rebuild of Echo Loder Elementary.

Mynews4.com reports that construction is already underway on the same plot of land as the existing Echo Loder Elementary.

School Principal Marcus Culpepper said construction has created temporary challenges for students and staff, but he expects the finished campus to be worth it.

District officials say the new Echo Loder campus will nearly double the available classroom space and provide upgraded learning areas and expanded support services for families.

The project is part of the district’s 15-year facility modernization plan. According to the district, nearly 45% of its schools are more than 50 years old.

The new campus will accommodate nearly 900 students from Echo Loder, Corbett and Veterans elementary schools. Those campuses are expected to be phased out and eventually demolished in the coming years

The new school is expected to open in August 2027.
