Murray State University breaks ground on $60 million building for veterinary school

The university approved creation of a College of Veterinarian Medicine earlier this year.

Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, has broken ground on a $60 million building to house its newly formed College of Veterinary Sciences

The university says the one-story building will measure over 88,000 square feet and provide classrooms, laboratories, offices and support space, as well as common areas for students to collaborate and study. Construction is expected to take 24 months. 

The architect is Hafer.

The building will be used by undergraduate students in the Hutson College of Agriculture as well as future students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Murray State's Board of Regents approved the creation of the College of Veterinary Medicine in February.

In 2024, the state biennium budget approprated $60 million in funding for the facility.

The new College of Veterinary Medicine will offer a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to support future generations of veterinarians. Murray State is working to obtain the required program accreditation for the college.
