New elementary in Moline, Ill., will take the place of 2 schools

Ontiveros Elementary will open in 2027 and welcome students from Lincoln-Irving and Willard elementary schools.

The Moline-Coal Valley (Illinois) district has broken ground on an elementary campus that will take the place of two existing schools.

The Rock Island Dispatch-Argus reports that Robert Ontiveros Elementary School in Moline is being built on the site of Lincoln-Irving Elementary. Students from Willard Elementary will join the new school when Willard closes after the 2026-27 school year.

Ontiveros will have a projected enrollment of 600.

The district plans to welcome students to the new school in fall 2027. The total cost of the project will be $33.4 million.
