Comal (Texas) district is building $58 million elementary in New Braunfels

The Comal (Texas) Independent School District has begun construction of a $58.4 million elementary school to be built within the Meyer Ranch development in New Braunfels.

The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung reports that the school, known for now as Elementary 22, is one of the two planned schools that will help reliee crowding at Johnson Ranch Elementary and Bill Brown Elementary, said Superintendent John Chapman.

Board Vice President Russ Garner said that New Braunfels and Comal County continue to rank among the fastest growing areas in the nation. This year, the district is expected to reach a record enrollment of more than 30,240 students, The district's most recent demographic update estimates that enrollment will surpass 39,900 students in 10 years.

"This demonstrates how much elementary school 22 is needed for this area and for our students," Garner said.

The district's goal is to open the school in 2027.
