The Akron (Ohio) district is set to break ground later this week on a $76 million project that will construct a middle and elementary schoool side by side.

The district says the the site of the former Kenmore High School campus will be shared by two different schools: one serving students from Pfeiffer Elementary (grades preK-5) and the other serving Miller South Middle School students (grades 4-8).

Miller South students will enter on the north part of the campus, and the Pfeiffer students will enter on the south side.

The schools will share several spaces, including the cafeteria, auditorium/theater and gym.

The original budget for the Pfeiffer/Miller South project was $63 million. Estimated costs have risen by $13 million and now total $76 million. To reduce costs, some reductions in square footage have been made and certain features were cut back.

Abatement and demolition of the former Kenmore High School building began in Spring 2025.

The new campus is targeted to open in August 2028.
