The Erie (Pennsylvania) district is nearing completion of a new building for Edison Elementary School.

The Erie Times-News reports that students, teachers and staff are scheduled to move into the $35.5 million building next month after spring break. The new school building has been constructed just south of the existing Edison.

The school had been expected to be completed in August 2025, but construction complications required the opening to be pushed back.

The students' last day in the old building, which was constructed in 1931 and renovated in 1952, will be March 27 before spring break and Easter. Their first day in the new building will be April 7.

Demolition of the old building is expected to begin in late April. That space will be used for parking, play and green spaces.

Edison's 400 or so students have attended classes in the old building while the new one was constructed. The new building will have a capacity of 600 and will provide space for the growing number of students in the district requiring specialized instruction, such as autistic or life skills support.
