The Lamar County (Mississippi) district has broken ground on two new high school campuses.

WDAM-TV reports that the new Purvis High School campus is being built across the street from the existing campus. The new campus for Sumrall High School is just a few minutes up the road from the existing school.

Groundbreakings have been held in each community. The two projects combined will cost $86 million. Funding come from a $117 million bond referendum that Lamar County voters approved in November 2024.

"For Sumrall and Purvis, today is just a momentous and huge milestone to indicate that we’re invested and we want to give our students the best," said Superintendent Wesley Quick. "We appreciate the community and the support in both places for the bond referendum. We couldn’t do it without them.”

The district expects to have students on both campuses by Fall 2027.

The architect for both schools is MP Design Group.
