The Manatee County (Florida) district has broken ground on its eighth high school, which will address growth in the Lakewood Ranch area.

The Bradenton Herald reports that the $144 million school, which has not yet been named, is being constructed on an 85-acre site.

The new high school is scheduled to open in August 2027 for grades 9 and 10.
One grade level will be added each subsequent school year.

According to the district, the new school will be a “modified reuse” of Parrish Community High School’s design.

It will be the district’s first high school with collegiate-style lecture halls, and will have a state-of-the-art turf field and rubber track, among other sports facilities.
