The Hamilton County (Tennessee) district has unveiled plans for a $34 million renovation of Soddy Daisy Middle School.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the improvements will include modernized classrooms, a new gymnasium and an upgraded cafeteria. The renovations will begin next year and are expected to be completed in fall 2029.

When Hamilton County officials first presented the school facilities plan in August 2023, the plan called for Soddy Daisy Middle's students to be relocated to create a K-12 experience on the shared campus of Daisy Elementary and Soddy Daisy High. Community members instead pushed for the existing building to be renovated, and in November 2024, the Hamilton County school board approved updating the middle school.

The construction will be done in two phases to minimize disruption on campus, and it is not expected to affect daily school operations.

"Looking to the future and what this will do for the town of Soddy-Daisy, our students and our community in general, we're really, really excited." Principal Karyn Cox said.

Once renovations are completed, Soddy Daisy Middle will serve up to 650 students. It now serves 435 students.
