The University of Florida has broken ground on a multiphase project that will reimagine the College of Dentistry building in Gainesville.

The university says the project will add over 100,000 square feet of modernized teaching, research and patient care space.

The initial phase will upgrade the 11-story Dental Science Building. Crews are removing the brick exterior, sealing the structure to prevent water intrusion and modernizing the building’s façade with a durable panel system.

Construction of the addition is set to begin in August 2026.

The project’s final phase will breathe new life into the nearly 50-year-old building, transforming its clinical, research and educational halls into leading‑edge environments. By modernizing every room, the college will weave advanced technologies throughout and create flexible, collaborative spaces.
