The Metro Nashville (Tennessee) district has cut the ribbon on a 800-student building that replaces the old Lakeview Elementary School

The district says the new 117,541-square-foot Lakeview Elementary has a community room opening up to an outdoor stage and performance area; a full-sized, multipurpose gym; a geothermal well system for heating and cooling; light shelves above windows to enhance daylighting, and other sustainable design features.

“This is what happens when a city invests in its students and its educators and in teaching and learning,” Nashville Superintendent Adrienne Battle said.

The new building replaces a smaller building that opened nearly 60 years ago on the same site.

The architect is Orcutt | Winslow, and the builder is The Carter Group.
