The Aurora (Colorado) district has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of an $85 million, 1,000-student school for students from prekindergarten through eighth grade.

Sentinel Colorado reports that the campus is being built near the intersection of Interstate 70 and E-470 in the Horizon Uptown community.

“The new P-8 will feature a unique floor plan with three floors and an abundance of windows to allow for natural light throughout the structure,” a statement from the Aurora district said.

Students will have access to exploratory labs on each floor, along with two art rooms and two music rooms (one for vocal and one for instrumental music), according to the statement.

“The school will also feature a full-size gym and a robust athletics program for middle school students,” the district said.

Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026. The nearby Clyde Miller P-8 School will close at that time, and students will be moved to the new campus.
