Oconto Falls (Wisconsin) district ready to open new middle school

Oconto Falls Middle replaces the aging Washington Middle and will accommodate grades 6 to 8.

The Oconto Falls (Wisconsin) district has held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening its the new middle school  on land adjacent to the district's elementary and high schools.

WTAQ-Radio reports that the $35.5 million Oconto Falls Middle School replaces the outdated Washington Middle School and features larger rooms, upgraded technology and transformative educational spaces.

“We have a lot of great things going on at our middle school, so it’s great to have the facilities that match that instruction,” said Stuart Russ, Oconto Falls superintendent.

The project architect, Somerville Architects and Engineers, says the new middle school sits on a 90-plus-acre tract and consists of 74,594 square feet of space.

The school accommodates sixth, seventh and eighth grades; future expansion plans call for a fifth-grade wing.

In addition to academic spaces, the school has a full competition gym with two cross courts and a multipurpose room designed for wrestling, dance and cheer.
