The Brunswick County (North Carolina) School Board has voted to move forward with construction of an elementary school in Leland.

The Port City Daily reports that a 750-student school will be built on a 64-acre tract in Leland’s Jackey’s Creek neighborhood. Officials say the new school will ease crowding in the district.

The district acquired the site last year for $5.5 million. The project has a total budget of $99 million and is expected to open for the 2028-29 school year.

A demographic study of the district has projected that within the next decade all 20 schools in the Brunswick County would be operating at or above 90% capacity.
